Two very important bills were introduced in Congress. HR 5186 / S 2653 – the Homeless Children and Youth Act. This helps remove barriers for homeless youth to be eligible for HUD services. It addresses definitions issues and helps resolve the conflicts between homeless education and HUD. It gives guidelines, no mandates, for local communities to address youth homelessness. Both Senator Rob Portman and Rep. Steve Stivers have co-sponsored these bills on behalf of homeless youth in Ohio and YEP. Take a moment to thank them, there are a lot of opponents to these bills. Our friends, Ruth Anne White and Barbara Duffield, are working hard on this in DC. There are fact sheets on www.NAEHCY.org web site.
